Mission
To develop strategies that attract, educate and sustain a well-trained and appropriately distributed physician workforce in Mississippi, so as to ensure health care access for ALL Mississippians.
Vision
Through emphasis on a strong and expanded primary care foundation, ALL Mississippians shall have access to timely and appropriate health care.
Created in 2012 by the state legislature, the Office of Mississippi Physician Workforce (OMPW) monitors and evaluates the composition and distribution of Mississippi’s physician workforce and provides assistance and recommendations to the state’s leadership on current and future workforce needs. Initiatives include policy development that improves graduate medical education and physician training, retention and distribution, physician workforce projections, and data and research.
